Volunteer Program

Volunteer Positions Available!

Make a difference in the life of a child!

Who: We need interested adults (parents, grandparents, neighbors, aunts, uncles, students…) to tutor children one-on-one in reading in grades 1-3.

When: One day a week, one and a half hours a day

What: Volunteers will listen to each child read for 15 minutes and reinforce reading strategies being taught in the classroom.

Training: Each volunteer will need to attend a training, November 8th at 6:00pm at Loma Portal Elementary library prior to volunteering.

Benefits:

Students tutored three times a week improve an average of 6 reading levels.
Volunteers learn reading strategies that work well with all children.
Rewarding experience for both student and volunteer.
