Award Winning Drama Driving Miss Daisy Opens February 20th  at the Point Loma Assembly

Point Loma Actors Workshop announces the opening of Driving Miss Daisy, a Pulitzer Prize and Oscar winning comedy drama which will warm your heart with its message of friendship, love and hope. Driving Miss Daisy was written by Alfred Uhry in 1987 and will open Friday, February 20th at 8 p.m. at the Point Loma Assembly. Driving Miss Daisy is perfect for all ages, 10 to 100, and is the perfect night out for friends and family who want to enjoy plenty of laughs. The comedy is set in Atlanta, Ga. from 1948 to 1973.  There are three characters, Daisy Werthan, an aging Jewish widow, Hoke Coleburn, a proud black man who is her chauffeur and her son Boolie Werthan. Against all odds, Miss Daisy and Hoke create a strong and wonderful friendship which lasts for more than 25 years.

Director John H. Cochran, who will also play Hoke, has cast New York stage actress Betsy Bruce Osmun as Daisy and National Theater of Great Britain actor Ken Oberlander as Boolie. Mr. Cochran, a nationally known stage and film actor promises an outstanding theatrical experience for all to enjoy and comments, “I chose this contemporary play, as it tells the story of how people from very different backgrounds despite their longstanding prejudices and circumstances can change their own realities in a heartbeat and find tolerance, love and acceptance. This play is about bringing people together in our society and it shows how far we have come since the days of Miss Daisy and Hoke.” Cochran continues, “the play takes place in the same town where my father grew up in Georgia and I know of the places and stories that Miss Daisy and Hoke talk about and it speaks to me in a very powerful way.”

Performances will continue on Saturday, February 21st, Friday, February 27th, Saturday, February 28th and Friday, March 6th, Saturday, March 7th, Friday, March 13th and will close on Saturday, March 14th.
