For the first time in San Diego theatre history, a select group of
local students will be joining professional actors on stage for the
hit musical, HAIRSPRAY.  This summer’s production marks
the first collaboration of its kind between a local professional
theatre company, San Diego Repertory Theatre, and a performing arts
high school, the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts
(SCPA).
 
The cast includes Point Loma resident, Erica Malachowski, a current
9th grade student at SCPA, along with twelve other SCPA
students/alumni and a professional adult cast.  Erica formerly
attended Sunset View Elementary, Dana Middle, and Correia Middle
School.  She got her start in the Sunset View kindergarten production
of "That's No Way To Treat A Ladybug" and went on to perform with Mr.
Cobb's musical theatre class at Dana Middle School and Ms. Hudson's
drama class at Correia Middle School.  Erica has performed
professionally with the San Diego Lyric Opera and with Vanguard
Theatre, J* Company Youth Theatre, San Diego Junior Theatre, Looking
Glass Theatre, Pacific Children's Theatre, Centre City Ballet, San
Diego Ballet, Jean's Issac's San Diego Dance Theatre and Malashock
Dance.
 
The San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) will host
a HAIRSPRAY Fundraising Gala on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 6:00 pm in
the Lyceum Theater at Horton Plaza.  Tickets are $45 and include the
Gala reception begining at 6:00 pm with free appetizers, beer/wine,
desserts, a silent auction and entertainment, followed by the
performance of HAIRSPRAY at 8:00 pm.  All proceeds from this evening
benefit Friends of SCPA to support arts programs at SCPA. For tickets
