DysFUNKtional Classic Rock at The Local - Family Friendly Event

What
DysFUNKtional Classic Rock at The Local - Family Friendly Event
When
6/14/2011, 5:30 PM 7:30 PM
Where
The Local San Diego Downtown 5th Avenue

On Tuesday, June 14th, from 5:30-7:30pm, DysFUNKtional is playing at The Local San Diego (www.thelocalsandiego.com), and you all are invited to attend.

This is a family friendly event.  And the Local will have the kitchen open, so you can order food as well as beverages.

DysFUNKtional plays mostly classic rock, jazz rock and a few contemporary reggae and alternative songs - think Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Steve Miller Band and Sublime.  Here's a YouTube video of them playing "Jumping Jack Flash" at Point Loma High School last fall:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5nk6uKs0iY.

DysFUNKtional is one of the bands put together under the guidance and assistance of local musician and music teacher, Glen Fisher, and his organization, the First Friday Club (http://firstfridaymusicclub.com/).  Glen     founded the First Friday Club to creatively supplement the dwindling music education in local schools. By creating venues and opportunities for kids to perform, teaching private lessons, and coaching rock, jazz, and blues bands from ages 6 and up, Glen and the First Friday Club are helping hundreds of local kids realize their potential as musical artists. Glen believes that performance experience and the preparation involved in a ‘gig’ create one of the best learning experiences. The benefits are various. The kids not only continue to experience the joy of playing an instrument and performing onstage, but also learn how to present themselves in front of people, work as a team, act responsibly, and communicate well.

Here's a little write up on Glen and the performance some of his students (including AJ and other members of DysFUNKtional) did last fall at Point Loma Nazarene University:  http://blogs.pointloma.edu/thepointweekly/2010/10/25/first-friday-club-san-diegos-school-of-rock/

Also, if you want an independent evaluation of the kids' talent (because I might be a little biased), feel free to ask Sean Cunningham, Ed Sikorski, Brian Fogarty, Erin Gibson, Jacob Anderson or David Knudson about the band.  They've all seen AJ and the kids from the First Friday Club perform in other local venues.

The event should be fun, and I know the kids would love to see you there.
