Kevin Henkes visiting for Read Across America "Books are often the first exposure to art that children have. Keeping that in mind urges me to make the very best books possible. I know how important the books from my childhood were (and are) to me. Without them, I might not be a writer and artist today." Kevin Henkes The award-winning author and illustrator, Kevin Henkes, will be coming to Loma Portal on Thursday, March 1st!
Kevin Henkes is author of Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Owen, Kitten's First Full Moon and Chrysanthemum to name just a few of the award-winning books your child may have enjoyed. This is such an incredible treat that wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for our wonderful librarian Mindy Fenska and help from our neighbors, The Yellow Book Road, children's book store in Liberty Station. In addition, Loma Portal will have a variety of other exciting activities to celebrate Read Across America the week of Feb. 27 - Mar. 2, such as K-3 Wacky Wednesday and Book Character Dress Up Day. More details will follow in future Loma Lines. There will not be a literacy night on Friday, Mar. 2 due to the author visit on Thursday morning. |
