CST Testing April 30 - May 11
When
4/30/2012
Where
2nd - 4th Grade Classrooms

It’s STAR Testing Time!  Beginning next Monday, April 30, through Friday, May 11, students in grades 2-4 will be participating in the 2012 California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program.  (Some Special Education will begin testing this week.)This testing program is designed to provide students, parents, teachers, and the community with information about student achievement.  STAR results measure students’ mastery of California’s academic content standards for your child’s grade level.  These tests are an opportunity for students to show what they have learned.

Testing dates and times will vary according to your child’s classroom or special education (RSP) schedule.  The complete set of tests will be administered over the next two weeks and one test will be given each day.  Throughout the year your teachers have incorporated testing strategies into their regular classroom curriculum.   As the state STAR tests are in a multiple-choice format, these strategies help your child find the right answer, solve problems, and eliminate confusing and wrong answers.  These strategies will also be beneficial for testing throughout your child’s school experience.

We know you will join us in encouraging your child to do his/her very best on the test.  You are a very important partner in the testing process, and you can help your child in the following ways:

·       Make sure your child has plenty of sleep each night

·       Provide a healthy breakfast each morning

·       Try to avoid those inevitable childhood conflicts on the mornings of testing (clothes and shoes selected the night before and lunch ready before school!)

·       Ensure that your child arrives at school on time and is in line at 7:45 each morning.  Children in line on time will receive a raffle ticket each day of testing. Children who arrive after 8:15 a.m. will be unable to take the STAR test in their classroom as it creates a distraction to other students.  Please make attendance a priority for your family.

·       Avoid scheduling medical or other appointments or vacations during testing time. If your child will be absent for any reason, please contact the school immediately.

Parents/guardians will receive detailed reports of their students’ results on the STAR by mail in late August.

Parents: Please Make a Colorful Sign to Support Our Students During Testing

During testing our classroom walls must be stripped of all charts and content information.

O.B. Parents: Please help us fill our classroom and hall walls with positive affirmations and encouraging phrases to encourage our children to do their very best on the test.  You can also write a personal note or card for your student to keep on his/her desk. Teachers also appreciate healthy snacks during this time.

Please create a personalized, uplifting sign to encourage our students to do their very best.  Use your child’s classroom # and words of encouragement:  “You can do it” phrases.  Our signs will be bright, colorful, and supportive reminders that we care!

Please return signs by Friday or Monday morning so we can post them.
