Las Vegas Academy Advanced Guitar Ensemble
On Friday, January 25th at 7pm in the Correia Middle School auditorium, Bill Swick and the Las Vegas Academy Guitar Orchestra will be performing a concert open to the public. Ticket cost is $5. The Las Vegas Academy Advanced Guitar Orchestra under the direction of Bill Swick is a ten-time Grammy award winning school. The program is the recipient of the Gibson Music Education Award and has been recognized as one of the top three high school guitar programs in the nation. Members of this ensemble have been featured at three NAMM conventions, two MENC Conventions, and numerous national guitar festivals. Prior to the concert, Mr. Swick will present a workshop created for music teachers who are actively teaching guitar or for those who are inspired to start a new program. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge of classroom guitar pedagogy from this nationally renowned educator, performer, and Grammy winner. Bill Swick currently chairs the music department for the ten-time GRAMMY award winning Las Vegas Academy and is the guitar task force chair for Clark County School District, the nation's fifth largest public school district. Mr. Swick services 62 secondary guitar programs representing 5,700 guitar students. The guitar curriculum developed by Mr. Swick includes over 20 volumes of edited repertoire tailored for beginning students and college music majors, and over 400 guitar ensemble arrangements. The lessons in his classroom guitar editions have been developed with the intent to take remedial beginners to advanced stages of music reading and improvisation. Many of his graduates from the Las Vegas Academy have been place in major conservatories and music colleges receiving full scholarships. The program he has developed at the Academy is arguably one of the leading public high school programs in the United States.
